Train Concert!

22 Apr

If you haven’t noticed, I’m a sucker for quotes.

IMG 0654

I find them very uplifting and use them constant reminders. I’ve been in a really good place the past couple of days. I’ve discover a plethora of new blogs that are SO fantastic. Once I get them organized in my reader I’ll be sharing them 🙂

So I brought in my own mug and bowl to work because our office bowls and mugs are boring and no fun to look at.

IMG 0659

Much better! The bowl’s from Pier One and was around $2 and the mug’s from Marshalls. Love it.

So if you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I scored free tickets to a Train concert at Webster Hall. For those of you who don’t know Train, they sing Drops of Jupiter, Meet Virgina and Hey Soul Sister. Origins sponsors a month long go green initiative so in order to get the free tickets I had to sign a “Be Green” petition! Yay for Earth Day.

Leanna and I headed to the Heartland Brewery before the show for some drinks and apps. We both opted for the “Not Tonight Honey” stout for $5!

One of the things I miss most since moving to NYC is driving. I love driving. I love it because on a hot summer day I can roll all the windows down, stick my arm out and belt out my favorite songs at the top of my lungs with the music as loud as it goes. So basically I miss singing and the liberating feeling that is comes with. When I tell other NYCers of my predicament they ask what’s stopping me from singing on the subway with my headphones in. Honestly, I probably could. I’d be classified as one of the crazies … and I don’t really want that.

So why bring this up? Because I got my “screaming to the top of my lungs” in at this show. I warned Leanna that it could get ugly.

IMG 0680

The show was AWESOME!

IMG 0689

I was a bit groggy the next day but cured that with a little nectar of the gods.

IMG 0697

And then I felt better.

Are you a car singer?

Weekend Summary

18 Apr

So. Much. Fun.

Exactly what I needed … and now I need a salad.

IMG_0577Tiana, Brittany, me. Thanks Britt.

I headed up to Newburgh* this weekend for a mini college reunion with my best friends. Friday when I arrived in Beacon my friends greeted me with “OMG you’re so New York. Look at how you walked over here. You did this (acted out) and this (over dramatic acted out me walking to the car.)”

After cursing at the traffic and one another for no apparent reason I sighed and said, “It’s good to be back,” and boy did I mean it.

We headed to TGI Fridays for dinner and drinks. I spend $22 on dinner and four beers or so. Don’t mind if I do.

After dinner we headed to a new place on the Newburgh water front, Billy Joe’s Ribworks. This place was awesome. Great band, great beer, great friends. Clearly the first night was a success because it ended like this:

Literally I just died laughing at this pic.

I woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed to go to lacrosse practice with Catie who coaches varsity at her old high school. After chugging a large coffee with skim milk and one splenda I was good to go.

Catie has never played lax before and it’s the school’s first year having a program and since I played in high school she asked if I’d come along. It was awesome. I loved the girls and they we’re so thankful to have me there. After practice we went back, showered, napped, ate prepped for round two.

Catie and I looking glam before another night out!

A few more friends came up Saturday and we actually went back to Billy Joe’s. I laughed, laughed and laughed.

IMG_0609My beautiful friend Christina who lives in Columbus Circle in Manhattan said as this photo was being taken, “The closest I’ll ever get to Brooklyn.” Yes fellow Brooklyn-ites, she’s one of those

Another solid night for the books.

Sunday was a bit more rough than the previous morning, so how do you cure that?

Ice cream DUH. Chrissy and I went to the dining hall and snagged some. You’re looking at cake batter, coffee and chocolate moose tracks.

I wasn’t kidding about the salad. Someone send one, quick.

*Yes this is the same Newburgh where the woman drove into the Hudson with her three kids. We actually drove past the site. So chilling/awful. Please keep the Newburgh community in your thoughts and prayers.

Cake, Chili and Beer

28 Jan

The cake was a success! To be honest, I’ve definitely had better but this wasn’t half as bad as I thought. It’s a dark chocolate cake which it probably why I wasn’t too crazy about it, but the coworkers liked it 🙂 I used this recipe exactly.

It’s going to be different with out our amazing intern.

(He’s on the left) Our small but mighty department went to lunch to celebrate his last day. We stopped in the beautiful snow covered Madison Square Park for some pictures.

Isn’t Manhattan gorgeous?

So my birthday is coming up! I’m a leap year baby, so not “technically,” but I’ll be celebrating the big 23 this year. Weird. And for those who are thinking in their head, “Leap Year! OMG I never met anyone with that birthday! When do you celebrate?” Personally, I say March 1 because I was born the day after February 28th. So there.

That being said, I have been putting lists in my Google calendar thinking about what I want.

1) Crock Pot – Come home and dinner’s ready? Check.

2)  French Press – Super strong coffee? Yes please.

3) Magic Bullet – Blend things i.e. smoothies, banana ice cream, alcoholic beverages, etc? Sign me up.

4) Mac Book Pro – Duh.

See a wee bit of a common theme? Besides the Mac Book of course which is wishful thinking.

My kitchen game needs to step up STAT and I must say these three lovely appliances would be a fantabulous beginning. (Side note: a red squiggle didn’t show under the word “fantabulous”)

In other food news, I made chili tonight!

The ingredients above was the core of the dish if you will but I was throwing every thing in this bad boy.

I started by sautéing the onion, pepper and garlic. Was out of olive oil so I used cooking spray. Gross at first, but in the end I couldn’t tell and there was not as many calories right?

Then dump the glorious beans in; I used black beans and red and white kidneys. Then I added the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and left over salsa that was chillen in my fridge. Then I poured the contents of this box atop.

Salt, cumin, chili powder dried onions and garlic, and masa powder. Oh and how can I forget. Rather then the broth I used …

IMG_2416 IMG_2419

Topped with a little …

I really just eye-balled everything and am proud of myself that it came out so good. And now I have chili to last me till the end of time.

God I’m attractive. There wasn’t a shot in hell that beer was going to waste.

Midnight Cake Baking

25 Jan

A little inspiration for your Tuesday morning.

I was given permission to come into work today at 10! I had to staff a New York Knicks game last night. Darn it all. Really me? Go to a Knicks game for free? Aw shucks.  Oh and there’s a $10 food and drink voucher included? FINE. I’ll go.

IMG_2342 IMG_2343

I was impressed with the social media person for the Knicks

Well done! I had some re-tweets in there to give them credit.

So when I got home at

I did this.

IMG_2350 IMG_2352

Yes that’s a cake. A dark chocolate cake made from scratch. If you’re knew to Freshman Year of Life, you’re unaware of my superb, expansive history of baking things from scratch.

It’s our amazing intern’s last day on Thursday so we’re having a party for him on and because I don’t have ounce of time tonight I had to prep it last night and bake it this a.m.

I was a bit nervous this morning when I pulled the batter out of the fridge and it looked like the above photo.

Enter: panic mode.

So what’s a 22 year old girl who’s slowly discovering her inner domestic goddess to do?

Call mom!

She reassured me it’d be fine if I just let it warm up to room temp. Fingers crossed kids.

I’ll be reporting back tonight between my 6:30 vinyasa class and my 10:15 basketball game.

Yup 10:15 p.m. it starts. Hence no time to bake cake.

Peace out cub scouts.

Upstate “Homey” Feeling

15 Jan

Good morning!

I’m up in Montgomery, NY staying at my old roommates house because we have an alumni basketball game today at 10:30. Originally I wasn’t going to come up here till today, but I was yearning for a “home” like feel. Although I adore my little Brooklyn apartment, it’s lacking in the “homey” category because my roommate and I don’t have the money to buy furniture and decor for the living room.

Megan, roommate of three years, moved home after graduation while she goes to grad school and has one of the loveliest homes I’ve ever stepped foot it. She one of three girls and her parents are honestly the most generous couple I know. They’re still so in love after 25 years and they’ve built a home together that gives you that warm fuzzy feeling when you walk inside.

This is Meg and I graduation weekend and it pretty much sums up our friendship.

My mom’s a pretty good photographer huh?

Meg, her parents and I wined and dined last night at a fantastic neighborhood last night, came back and caught up on the Jersey Shore. “How do you walk in with banana and expect everything to be peaches?” – Pauly D, I ❤ you.

This morning good ‘ol alumni of the Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Basketball program are playing in the first annual alumni game today! It’s going to be so much fun. All of my friends are coming up (my mom too)! And tonight we’re going to pretend like we’re still in college and rage. Hard.

Montgomery is only 15 minutes from Newburgh so I took the dreaded Metro North Railroad up to Beacon and waiting for Meg to get out of work. Remember when I used to commute two hours each way? Well during that dreaded time, I never appreciated how pretty the Hudson River is.

This photo clearly doesn’t do it justice, but you catch my drift.

Upon arrival in the lovely Beacon, NY I walked up to Bank Square Coffee House because It’s adorable and they have the best lattes this side of the Hudson.

Coconut. Latte. = DELICIOUS

I had to walk up to Main Street from the train, wasn’t too far but it was super cold.

Just finished a hot bowl of oats and am about to head to the alumni game! Woop woop
